help!!! wireless network problems

I have an Inspiron 6000 and I thought I knew a lot about computer until I got this thing. I feel totally stupid when it comes to the wireless network. I don't know if I have it set up right or not.....it doesn't hardly ever work and when it does the connection is "very low" and it takes forever to navigate. I don't know what to do or where to start- I would really appreciate any help that anyone could give me. Thank you

Start with this article on setup and security and post back with any issues:

What, if anything does that link have to do with the original question? Maybe you got a bad link?

Thank you for your help.  I haven't actually got to it yet.  It is on my list of things.  I go to college and have had tests and papers this week but I plan on either trying it tonight or tomorrow and I do really appreciate your help.  I will let you know if I need anything else.  Thank you so much.

Sorry you haven't hear from me in so long but...I have a new problem!! It says it connects and it says that the connect is very good. But it also says that it is acquiring network address and it just keeps doing that until eventually it has little or no connectivity so I can't use it anyways!! What can I do? I really appreciate all your help! Thanks again.

Totally rest the router and start over, if that does not work Google for a program named WinSockFix Xp and run it.

Ok I will try that-another thing that has happened is that when it says acquiring internet address for a minute or two and then an Error box will come up and say that it was unable to find a valid IP address....I don't know if there is something else I need to do for this or if I should just do what you said first and then see what happens! Thanks

The Win Sock repair will fix the corrupt TCP/IP stack, which sounds like what is going on.
