This webpage (http://www.netgate.com/minipci.html) seems to imply that the mini PCI slot in I5100 is type IIIA compatible. Can someone please confirm this? Moderators??
Sine I now have the Atheros-based DLink 624 Extreme G router capable of ding 108 Mbps, I may be tempted to try the above Netgate cards, if only they'll fit in the I5100.
On the other hand, my TM1300 now has no problems maintaining connections to my new DLink 624 Extreme G WLAN router (latest TM1300 driver, latest DLink 624 firmware).
John, can you explain a bit about measuring the area? Not sure how I'd go about doing that. The compartment the mini PCI card sits in has the actual connector which I assume is common for type IIIA and IIIB, and then has some room on one side, not sure about the other. There are two metal clips that hold the card in place once you slide it into the connector, and they make contact with two little strips of metal on the card itself. Not sure if these two metal contacts are relevant for the actual functioning of the card.
I guess the easy way to do it is to just compare detailed images of the two cards besides each other. I'll try and dig up some images.
I think I found a definitive answer. This spec document (http://cmclab.rice.edu/projects/giganic/datasheets/PCI/SPECS/Mpci10.pdf) lays out the measurements for type IIIA and IIIB cards (also for type I and II, in case anyone is interested). It seems that I only need to verify if my I5100 would have about 5-6 mm extra room to spare at the "top" (the side where TM1300's antenna connectors are located). If yes, type IIIA would fit.

That si what I meant by measuring the opening - from the connector gold fingers away from the connector to the first part(s) that would get in the way of a card in the connector - it would have to be at least the distance of a IIIA card size. The clips do two things - lock the card into the connector and provide additional grounding points.
