My dell laptop Inspiron will not connect to the Qwest modem. Says the ip address is invalid. Tried to reassign a valid ip address and the computer still did not accept the modem? What can I do?
Normally the modem should be supplying the IP address. Have you tried to set a static IP address? Which version of Windows are you running? Which model computer? To help troubleshoot this problem, on the computer with the problem, and while it is trying to make a connection to your modem, go to Start > Run and type
cmd then click OK. In the command prompt window that opens, type
ipconfig /all then hit the enter key. Write down the output from this command or select it and save it to a txt file, then copy this output into a reply to this message.
I am running Windows XP on a 6000 Inspiron. I connected the Qwest modem and the set up disk said there was an error code QC4010. The Qwest rep had me pull up and enter the ipconfig and a new ip address of 192.168.0.1. The original one was 169.... It still didn't work. So she said there was something wrong with my dell. I am currently using my work computer. At home, I can't get on the internet so I can't communicate via this forum from my home laptop. Anything I can do to rectify this problem?
Also, every time I start my laptop, a stupid box pops up
Windows Installing....insert disk to update Sonic Update Mgr. I have to click
cancel 6 times before it goes away. I am tempted to delete the Sonic from my programs list but I think it has something to do with photos.
You will have to go home, run the command, copy the output, bring it back to work, and send a post a reply.
I know the Sonic Uptdate Manager question has been discussed hundereds of times on these forums (but not on the Network forum), try using the search function of the forums to find an answer to that.
