Modem Malfunction

I have a Dimension 4300, running Windows XP Home Edition, that has been operateing just fine up until last week.

When I try to connect to the internet, via dial-up, the modem logs onto my ISP ok, but then seems to freeze up. Modem status shows that I am sending bytes, but not receiving any. I did a modem "query" and it tells me the modem is functioning properly.

I thought maybe the modem was bad, so I replaced it with a new one. Same problem.

I have another computer, not on a network, it has been functioning normally. So I know it's not the phone line or the ISP.

I have done virus scans, replaced the phone line to the computer, did a system "restore" to a previous XP restore point, etc.

I have not added or updated any programs, it was working fine in the morning when I logged off my ISP, that evening it started having this problem.

Any ideas?

    hi

so u have changed the modem with a know good one so thats clear that its not with the modem.  don't worry ,  as u said u r problem is its dialing but not able to connect  and u r able to send bytes     but not able to receive  any .

u have done virus scans, replaced the phone line to the computer, did a system "restore" to a previous XP restore point  very good ,

problem might be with  tcp/ip  or network adapters   which are very important  and enables u to connect  ,  to check  click on start  run  and type  command  u get the  dos promt  window

their u get c:.\windows\command\desktop  some command like this  just  type  cd\(black slash) and hit enter .

u get c:>\   then  type  "ping localhost"  and enter

u should get  the ping sattistics . let me know what u get their

after that just give a reply to me

    Rocky ......

Thanks for the input, but I discovered the problem.

I contacted my ISP the day after posting my problem on the Forum. Seems they changed their Primary and Secondary DNS Server settings without notifying anyone of the change.

    Raspberries :smileymad: to them.

After their Tech walked me thru the re-setup process, things are working fine again. Only problem is now I'm setting here with a new $30 modem that I didn't need after all.
