Need wireless network help
Sorry to sound fragmented, but here's a little history. A wireless network on my Inspirion 6000 has been set up and worked great from my home with the Linksys router - before. Recently went to Starbucks signed up on T-Moble, could not connect. (the icon, wireless networks found on the taskbar is there. when I open it up the Intel Proset/Wireless box comes up. I see all the available networks, they are configured --- can't connect). So I say the heck with it, come back home, and now it won't connect to my home profile. Under available networks my profile is sitting there with 5 bars, but it says unable to connect. I know it's probably something simple I'm not doing, but I'm lost.

To help troubleshoot this problem, go to Start > Run and type cmd then click OK. In the command prompt window that opens, type ipconfig /all then hit the enter key. Write down the output from this command or select it and save it to a txt file, then copy this output into a reply to this message.

That indicates that your wireless network adapte is disconnected. Have you tried using the Fn F2 key combination to toggle it on? If you go into Network Connections, does it indicate that it is disabled? If so, right click on the wireless connection and enable it.

I had the same problem and the cure ended up being.. entered the bios and reset to default and then enabled the radio on wireless networking. I got it all back. but I still have problems spelling:)Message Edited by sleeplesman on 01-08-2006 11:16 PM

Hi I am new to this Community Forum stuff. I saw your message regarding network stuff and hope you can help me. Jsut yesterday I tried to set up a dell desktop along with my wireless dell laptop and I did the Network thing and I don't want that. I just want to be able to use both computers in the same house. Wireless for both would be great but I don't know if my desktop has a wireless card. Now when I try to use my laptop it wants a network key? I assume you have a router. that is where the network key would be. its part of the wireless security. look at the router wireless settings for the key and put the same ones in the wireless settings for the computer..Thanks for the help, but still not there yet. Now the signal is good, but the "limited or no connectivity" box in connection status comes up. It says, this problem occurred because the network did not assign a network address to the computer. When I press details the IP address or subnet mask is not the same as on the router page. How do you change that info on the laptop?

Do you have any security settings enabled on the router (MAC address filtering / WEP or WPA encryption)? If so, disable these settings until you get things to work. Are you able to connect to the router and internet through a wired ethernet connnection from that computer? If so, it eliminates many software problems. Are you sure that any firewall programs you are running are configured to allow the connection?
