Networking in Vista

I just bought a new dell desktop running vista I can not access files on the other machines running XP in the network,  all firewalls are off.  Everything worked fine before vista

    In the Network and Sharing Center, designate the netwrok as a private netwrok.  Are you sure all firewalls are off?  Third party as well?
