Setting Up A Wireless Connection?

Hi,
Thanks for any help at all.  I have a Dell Desk Top.  I am using optimum online to connect to the interent.   My husband has a dell wireless laptop.  I need to hook up a netgear router to my optimum box so that he can connect to the Internet.   I do have windows service pack two downloaded so as far as I know this should not be a problem.

One question I have is is by setting this up for my husband is this going to change the settings I use now to connect? In other words is this going to make my desk top wireless?  I really dont want to change my settings just make it so he can connect to the interent.

Do I need to install the software that came with netgear into my computer? Or will my computer be able to set this up using the wireless connection wizard in my control panel?

Is there a diagram online that shows what to hook where in order to set this all up?

Sorry for all the questions I just have never attempted anything like this and its making me nervous

Jill

There are two options for you.

    1:
Call Netgear support line at 1-888-638-4327 and ask them to walk you through setting everything up.

    2:
    Check these online documents.

Is "optimum online" a broadband (high-speed) connection or is it a special kind of dial-up?
