Slow response

I need help. I am getting frustrated with the response from my laptop. It takes forever to launch applications. Even IE is slow to launch. What can I do to help speed up. I just bought this laptop in april. It's a 2.54 G processor with 256 M RAM. I would think it should be speedy. I only use it for word processing, email, and websearch. I thought I bought more than enough machine for that.

    Sorry, I should give a little more info. I recently installed Panda AV SW. Has anyone seen problems with Panda?

    If you are using XP then you will need more RAM.

    Adding another 256MB of RAM will do wonders for your system.

    Thanks, How hard is that to do on a laptop? do I have to ship it back to Dell? I don't want to void any warranty. Also how much $? It's an inspiron 1150.
