Go to Solution745, Windows XP product key is not accepted?
I tried to use the Win XP disk acquired with a refurbished OptiPlex 745 and, see the attached photo of product key labels, the key did not work during install from CD rom. What can I do about the bad key? Otherwise can I get to the E: partition which might contain a restore, the E: is about 5% in size compared to the 235 Gb C: drive? The C: was reformated but not the E: drive. Thank you in advance for your thoughts.

During my XP days, I did more than one reload with same product key that it came with. You may been given a defective or not genuine product key. You might be able to buy an XP product key off of eBay.
If your photos show a full product key(s), they might not get approved. Otherwise, they're exposed for anyone to try. This forum doesn't have a way of testing product keys for authenticity.

The Product Keys for Windows XP Retail, Windows XP Retail Upgrade and Windows XP OEM (Dell License) are not interchangable.
In order to use the Dell Windows XP Professional Key you need to install using a Dell Windows XP Professional Reinstallation CD.
In actual fact, these systems automatically apply OEM SLP on Dell systems which have a SLIC Version of 1.0 incorporated into their Legacy BIOS and do not require input of the Product Key.
Note that Windows XP Reached End of Life in April 2014.

Dell OEM XP media is required. You cannot use OEM keys with Retail or Refirbished CD.
Using OEM media will not ask for a key.

Microsoft ended support for XP , in 2014. ok.
that means they also don't take calls on the phone for bad COA keys,
learn that many keys now were stolen by hackers with KEYGENS, and if yours was stolen then , that ends this story.
Win XP disk acquired ? well that can be any disks, even torrentt disks.
time to move up to w7 at least.
XP is virus magnet and the IE-6 version 8 is banned now. in the web. IE11 will not installed to XP, so...
do not use XP if wise. IMO
