The Intel Core i7-6700 processor in my Dell Optiplex 7040 SFF is not supported by Windows 11. Where can I find a list of the CPUs that can replace it? According to a third-party progam, Speccy, my motherboard is Dell 0HD5W2 (Socket 0).
You can't upgrade to anything officially supported by Windows 11. You can run Windows 11 in unsupported mode for now at least -- but if you want official Windows 11 support going forward, it's new(er) system time. Safest bet is a minimum of an 11th generation CPU.
@ejn63 Thanks for the reply. Disappointing that we have to buy a new computer, rather than simply upgrading it. But you saved us from buying an incompatible CPU. With all the scams and phishing attempts going on, we want an OS that gets security updates. Win 10 and Win 11 IOS don’t seem to fit that bill.
