I have a Optiplex 7010 SFF that has a problem, and needs some help
When I turned off the 7010 SFF I could not get it restarted. Orange LED was continuously blinking. I finally was able to get it going by pushing the back Power Supply Diagnostic button, and the Front Start Button at the same time. After about 24 hrs it stopped again. I did replace the battery, but still cannot get it to start by only using the front power button. The cpu fan seems to be a little loud. Could this cause this problem, or is it something else ?

Blinking orange power light can mean bad PSU. A bad PSU on its way out can still spin the fans when test button is pushed. Green light with test button pushed means all of the other peripherals are good.
There's a process in which to go thru if no green light which involves disconnecting everything until the green light comes on with test button pushed. It rules out any bad internal peripherals. This is of course with all external peripherals disconnected. But it's not necessary to go thru with getting green light from PSU.

I'll try the motherboard RTCRST jumper, as soon as I can. Doesn't removing the battery do the same thing? Jack

no they are not the same. I usually recommend both: replace battery w a new one and clear RTCRST settings.

I did the motherboard RTCRST jumper method, but everything is still the same. The only way I can get it to start is by pushing the back Power Supply Diagnostic button, and the Front Start Button at the same time. Jack

- Turn off the computer.
- Press the BIST button and verify if the LED turns on.
- The LED must be solid and not flickering or flashing. The power supply fan turns on. If the PSU fan does not spin correctly, consider the built-in self-test as failed even if the LED lights up.
If the BIST LED turns on, the power supply is delivering power to the computer.
If the BIST LED does not turn on or the PSU fan does not spin correctly, the power supply is not delivering power to the computer.

When pressing the BIST button it lights solid green.

What colour is the LED in the Power button when you press it only i.e. without the BIST key as well, to start up the PC?
Try disconnecting the power cord from the PSU and then holding the Power button operated for a full 30 seconds and then release it. Reconnect the power cord to the PSU and then try to turn on the PC using the power button only.

do you have another working 24/4 ATX psu to test the 7010 motherboard? If another psu works by pressing power button only, the stock psu is on its way out to bite the dust soon.

rather than trusting what Dell said, it would be quick to find out whether the psu is actually the culprit or not by using a test psu. I keep a handy working old 24/4 pin psu.
