Go to SolutionOptiplex 7000 500w power supply dimensions
Would anyone have the dimensions for the 500w power supply in an Optiplex 7000? I'm considering upgrading the PS to run a graphics card that needs power and the current supply doesn't cut it. I thought the size of the available 500w would be a good starting point to see if any third-party PSs would work (with an adapter of course).

there is no known adapter yet to work with the new Dell 8pin (and 10/12 pin) proprietary psu.
the psu form factor is server type
500w psu dimensions: 185*120*62mm
L x W x H · 7.36 x 4.72 x 2.44 inches

You mentioned in another post that these PSs should be compatible. Do you think that there would be much of a difference between their bronze rating and the platinum rating of the Optiplex PS?

platinum is more energy efficient.
I would choose the 500w psu as they are validated by Dell for 7000.
Dell also has 750/1000/1350 w psu with 10/12 pin should there be a need to run very powerful 4000 series gpu. the consensus is 1000 w is max one would need and often 750 w is good enough

note this is wider than the 500w psu (150 mm vs 120 mm) but is the same in depth and height.
the 750w psu can still fit 7000 tower which is 169 mm wide.
Dell has not validated 750w (10 pin) in 7000 but user reported it is all right to plug the 10 pin in 8 pin socket of motherboard.

Any thoughts on if this might work? I'm thinking that the cases are same/very similar but length might be an issue.

these are for previous gen Optiplex (7080/7090). they have 6 pin. none of which c/w 7000 or newer Optiplex

Sometimes it helps just to contact Dell directly and ask for what you want. I did an online chat to see what the PS would cost new and got a quote (after asking for a discount) of $144 CDN including taxes or $128 before taxes with free shipping. So, about $103 USD including tax. Not bad, so I think I'll just go this route, considering that it will be new and directly from Dell.

There is no known working PSU adapter to be used with motherboard of OptiPlex 7000. Only Dell OEM 500w PSU is your best bet.
These are PSU compatible with OptiPlex 7000 tower and SFF:
CW96Y= 500w Liteon
VFFKJ= 500w Liteon
