Replace Dell Optiplex 7040 power supply
Hi
I have an Optiplex 7040 with i7-6700. The power supply recently died and I wanted to replace it.
The power supply that was in the computer is a 180W supply (model: L180ES-00) with an 8 pin connector to the motherboard.
I bought a new 240w power supply (model: L240ES-00) but that has arrived with a 6 pin connector for the motherboard.
I can't see a 6 pin socket on the motherboard, so is this power supply incompatible with my 8 pin motherboard? Is there an adaptor I can get to make it compatible at all?
Or did I get the wrong PSU?
Thank you,
Thomas

I'm not sure I understand. I have the new power supply, but I didn't realise it would only come with a 6 pin connector.
Is there any way that I can still use it with my 7040 MT SFF? Is there an adaptor that I could use to make it an 8 pin connector?
Or do I need to get a different power supply?
Thanks

You do need to get a different power supply with 8-pin. Use the link I provided to see a list of original Dell power supplies with different part numbers. They are OEM part for your system.

It could happened. Although this website doesn't have any in stock, it lists only 180w for SFF and 240w for MT.
You could use the part number provided on the site to purchase the original Dell power supply.
