Apologies, if this question has either been answered a million times before - or is so blatently obvious that I obviously shouldn't be working in this industry.
I have just taken delivery of a sparkly new PE2800 with the dual embedded gigabit NIC's. This server is going to run our corporate application (with a MySQL backend), but I would like to ensure maximum throughput and maximum resillience.
As such, I would ideally like to team the network adapters. After confirming that what I wanted to do was controlled by the Intel ProSet application I opened it up and as the instructions said - right clicked on one of the adapters, which should have allowed me to select "Team".
However this option is not available. There are a few options which are in the list but are greyed out : Add VLAN, GVRP Support and GMRP Support; The only option which is available is Remove Adapter. The version of ProSet was pre-installed and it's full title and version number is:
Intel PROSet for Wired Connections (v6.4.3.8)
I am a little unsure whether this means that the adapters that I have are not suitable for teaming - or whether the software which is installed is not the correct version - or it is something else entirely.
If anyone could shed any light on this, I would be most grateful.
I have actually found the solution to this issue (having trauled through a number of threads on this forum)!
Thankfully the process is simple and painless:
1. Double click on the Proset.msi file located under IntelAdvanced\Apps\PROSet\W2KWS03 folder 2. Click on Next from the Welcome screen 3. Click on Modify from the Program Maintenance screen 4. Chose to Install the Advanced Network Service to the local hard drive 5. Click on Next 6. Click Install 7. Click on Finish after the driver has installed successfully.
Hope this information is of use to others, and thanks to Per_R who posted the information originally.
I had the same question for a new 2850 with a dual Intel Pro/1000MT. I had to download the new version of the drivers from Intel, and then the teaming options appeared.
