For those who are waiting for a 400SC ordered on the 12th or 13th of January, the wait may be a long one. I was just told by Dell that the price quoted was a mistake and as result they had to move the orders out of regular production. Although they are honoring the orders they are being filled after orders placed subsequently. In other words we are 2nd class or 3rd class customers now and our orders are not important enough to fill with "REAL" customers. I wonder if it is worth the savings to be jerked around like this. I was told the orders may be filled the 2nd week in February.
It would be nice if they updated the order status page to let us know when the real estimate is for shipping now. When I check my order (607750644) status (ordered 1/13), it still says :
I don't think they can really project a ship date because there is no build schedule for our computers. If they are building them as time permits as I was told it's when ever they get around to it. We aren't after all real customers.
Thanks for the info Craig. I tried the phone support route and that was when the Dell rep "Brian" made it painfully clear where I rank as a Dell Customer. Today I recived email from Dell saying that the delay is due to vendors. I do wish they would get their stories together.
I ordered a 400SC originally on January 12. After an unrelated billing problem and 2.5 hours on the phone with Dell, the sales guy moved up my order. One day later my system was in production... shipped the next day. I got my system yesterday (Tues 27th.)
Is the price worth the wait... I'd have to say no...
But the price WAS worth the 2.5 hours on the phone to get my system bumped to the front of the line.
I guess the key word for Dell is "expedite" :)
btw, I LOVE the 400SC. P4 2.4, 1 gig RAM, WIN 2003 Server
After finally coming up with a number to talk to someone, it appears my system has been expedited. I am hopeful it will continue to progess and ship today. The number I called was 800-456-3355, ext 68938
I placed my order pretty late and also had to jump through some financing hoops, but just got notice that mine went out today via Fed-Ex 2nd Day... should see it Monday!

Hang in there.
My system must have been one of the last ones before Dell spotted this issue. My system was promptly shipped by the date promised..
