600sc HT
Is there a way to order a Dell 600SC with a processor with HyperThreading in it? If you do not know the answer, then is there a number i can call to talk to someone. This will be my first server (we are going to a server environment from a peer-to-peer) and i am still getting the just of things.

I thought that the ServerWorks GC SL did not support HT. No matter if the CPU is capable, the chipset must also be able to recognize it for the combination to enable HT. But if it does, then the ONLY Intel CPU with 533MHz FSB that offers HT is the 3.06Ghz P4, which looks like the end of line for 533MHz FSB processors. All other HT-capable P4s have 800MHz FSB, which is not supported by the PowerEdge 600SC.
Intel Xeon requires a different socket altogether.

Hi Charles,
The PowerEdge 600 SC does not support Xeon processors. The PowerEdge 1600 SC does use Xeon processor technology and has the option of Scsi or IDE hard drives.

Hi mark,
I was just looking at the 1600SC and it actually may support IDE but there is no way to order it with IDE drives. Am i missing something? Please try and build a 1600SC with IDE on it and then tell me that it comes with IDE. I hope i am wrong and am just missing something. Thanks in advance for the timely response.

Hi Charles,
I see the problem in the website. You can order IDE raid controller documentation, but it is not possible to configure the IDE drives. I would suggest giving our sales department a call at 1-800-953-1401. They will be able to configure the system with IDE hard drives as you prefer. At this time, the largest drive we are installing is 120Gb, but that could change any time.

Wonder if someone can help me.I have an old 600sc with the 400Mhz FSB board and 1.8GHz P4.From the article http://www.dellcommunity.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=PowerEdgeServer-FAQS&message.id=16 it says the max it supports is the 2.4Ghz P4 without hyperthreading.I was wonder if I got the 3.06GHz P4 (northwood) WITH hyperthreading whether I could use it? I dont mind it running slightly slower, but I would like the hyperthreading feature.
