I am getting the following issue on a power edge 710 rack server that will no longer be needed as of August 11th due to virtualization. Looking at below error, do you think server will last till then?
"PCle fatal error on BUS 0 device 1 function 0. Review and clear SEL."
A PCIe fatal error will stop POST. If it was an active error the system would not boot up. If a device was attached to the system around the time the error occurred then I would start by troubleshooting that device.
No. Every computer goes through POST. Daniel was just saying that a PCIe fatal error is a game ender - will cause the computer to stop during POST at that error and will not proceed.
External devices connected to the server, add-in cards, or hardware failures can cause that error. He was suggesting removing any hardware that had been recently added, if any.
Thanks. We are getting rid of this server on Friday. Do you think it will lats till then?
If not, what do you suggest for a fix?
Can you get into the operating system? If you can get into the operating system then either something changed or it is an intermittent issue. It you are able to get into the OS then it may work until Friday.
