Mismatch System Board Fans Types

Hi,

After upgrading the iDRAC firmware, I had a critical error. Upon further investigating, I was able to determine the issue is different fan types. All of the fans are performance besides one that says standard (see image). As far as I am aware, this issue wasn't present before upgrading. What is the probability the upgrade could have caused this? Also, these servers are hours away, so as of now, physically troubleshooting is not an option. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

The server: PowerEdge R740

BIOS: 2.20.1

iDRAC: 7.00.00.00

    Hi,

Without finding out the all the fans DPN#, I might not be sure if it is an iDRAC error. But since you are far away from the server, what I can suggest is to try rollback to the previous version of iDRAC, or try downgrade to a lower version to troubleshoot the issue. Before you proceed with the firmware steps, have you tried resetting iDRAC? Usually I recommend hard reset, but this will set the iDRAC values to default, you may lose connectivity to iDRAC, so you can only try soft reset. https://dell.to/4aTao5g. Any possible way to reboot the server? Any down time?

Have the same issue. Updated everything on an R7525 and fan 3 is now misdetecting as Standard instead of Gold, regardless of which Gold fan I shove in that slot.

    BIOS Version  2.22.0
    iDRAC Firmware Version  7.20.80.50

    Hello,

Can you get a maintenance window and try a flea power drain, and if it still reports incorrectly do a NVRAM clear?

drain flea power (shut down, disconnect power cables and Network cables, hold in power button 20 seconds with cords removed).

After flea power drain, system has to set for 3 minutes for DRAC to reset without any power plugged in.

Then plug in NIC and power but wait 2 minutes before power on to give DRAC time to initialize.

    Check results

You may have to reset some BIOS settings after an NVRAM clear so please make note of any custom BIOS settings you have.

Clear NVRAM - there is a map under the lid to show the jumper location. Shut down, Set jumper to the Clear position, power on and Post up to the jumper error, shut down and return jumper to original location.

    Check results
