i have a Dell 600 SC server with windows 200 server in it. when i restart my computer the network works fine but after a few minutes the network stops responding. The connection icon on the system tray shows that it is still connected but cannot acess anything. i then reformatted my hard drive several time, but it did not solve my problem. I also applied the snmp patches but no luck.
i then changed my network card, but still i am facing the same problem. I also upgraded it to windows .net 2003 server, but no luck. The guys from dell told me to change the router and cable wires but still no luck.
it should not be a problem with the router. because the server is also connected to one of my personal computer to the router. When the network stops responding, the other computer also stops responding. But as soon as i remove the server from the network my other computer starts working again.
Anyone think that it is a prolem with the system itself?
Replaced the NIC in the 600SC server and it stops responding at random times. The server can ping itself using its IP address, name, and 127.0.0.1 but all traffic outside of it is unreachable.
However, I have no issues with the other PCs on the network. They see each other fine and can communicate as needed during this time - just not with the server.
I have done most everything I can think of with exception of applying driver, BIOS, etc ... updates - which I will be doing over the next few days. I am able to get everything restarted again by simply diabling the network card and then reenabing it.
There are no traces of anything weird happening - no event log messages, no clientside messages, nothing. The link lite even stays on the hub and nic.
I am actually thinking this has something to do with SP4 but have not found anything, nor experienced it on any other machines running SP4.
I don't believe this has to do with SP4. I have a SC400, brand new, and I have the same problem, running Win 2k3 Server. No SQL server, No Mail, no HTTP server, no nothing.
Downloading drivers from Dell was no help. Downloading drivers from Intel was no help. Just sent email to Dell Tech support. Looks like there are MANY people with the same problem. Maybe it's time for Dell to own up to this problem, and get a General Recall out on these boxes with the Intel 1000MT ports.
I am having the same problem with a Poweredge 400sc and Windows 2003 server. After about 10 minutes of network activity the network card stops responding. I can disable and re-enable the NIC and the process will start over. Dell, do you have an answer other than replacing the motherboard?????
I have had the same problem with a 400sc. I talked to Dell support and they sent me another mother board after a 2 hour support call. I still have exactly the same problem. My nic is the intel 1000mt. I can wake it up by uninstalling / installing it or by running the intel diagnostics.
