Hi I have seen some documentation from last year that says that Dell has no plans to create a driver for use with the Perc S300 and Windows Server 2012 R2. Does this situation still stand? If so, what is the best option for my brand new PowerEdge R210 II? I would much rather use hardware RAID than software RAID on what is going to be a domain controller. The server has just two drives setup in a RAID 1 array. Any help, suggestions and advice will be gratefully received. Thanks!
From the get-go, there was no support, and the nature of the work-around (not-using it) suggests there is no plan to support it. There are currently no drivers I can find for 2012/2012R2 for the Sx00, so I would take that as further confirmation that they won't ever be supported.
You said you would rather use hardware RAID anyway, so it shouldn't be too heartbreaking that the S300 will never be supported, since it is a software RAID controller. The only supported hardware RAID controller on the R210 II is the H200.
Yes, many thanks for posting the link to the S300 driver. We looked and looked, and tried different drivers that we found associated with the Service Tag # of the server on the Dell Support page, but none worked with that controller. Perhaps it was there - somewhere - but we could not find it. Your post saved us a lot of time and it worked!
Right or wrong, that 2012R2 S300 driver you posted also works with Server 2016! This was for an older Dell R410, on a bare metal install.
You rock- this driver allowed me to repurpose an old T110 for a friend of mine - Was able to install Windows 10 on the S100 RAID controller with no issue at all.
We're trying to do an in-place upgrade on a Dell server that has a S100 S300 PERC running 2008 R2 with a mirrored drive set. We're trying to upgrade to 2012 R2. We get stopped during the install/upgrade with a message saying that we need a updated driver.
Question: If we provide this driver when asked, will it successfully finish the in-place upgrade and maintain the mirrored drive set..?
We've inquired with Dell and they are taking the "it is not supported" route and are not very helpful. I do not want to try this to find out that I've lost all of my data on the mirrored drive set =/
The controllers are not "supported" because they are not compatible. There is no driver. You can try the one posted previously, but it's not worth it - it's not doing you any favors. You should never use an S-series controller.
