Hello all....i recently and happily closed a post about rebuilding a drive in a RAID 5 internal array.  When I reboot I realized another issue..

I have a Dell Power Edge 830, W2003, PERC 4E/DC scsi controller connected to an internal 4 drive RAID5 array.   When I shut down the server to investigate the bad drive, I shut it down and the external array unit (Enhance Tech E8 - ML, scsi card to sata, 4 1TB drives) and unplugged them.  I decided to pull two of the drives from the E8 - ML to inventory the age and part numbers.  After re-seating the drives, the unit and scsi cable, I plugged the unit back in, powered it on and turned on the server.  The internal array, Disk 0 was still functioning and rebuilding one of it's drives but the Disk 1, external array resources were not available. I let the rebuild finish which took a very long time, and when finished I restarted to try and troubleshoot the external drive.

Again, when I turn on the unit and start up the server, there is at best a uniform very quick one time flash of blue lights from all drive bays of the unit (even the 4 without drives).  If i put my ear very close to the power supply to listen, I here a very slight buzz sound from the back of the unit when on, but there is no fan activity at all or disk lights (either amber or green).  I believe the SCSI interface card (LSI SAS3442X) from the Server to the Unit is functioning properly as there is a tape drive connected to one of the card's internal SATA connectors and it is recognized within the MegRAID Storage Manager console that comes with it.  In addition, there are green and not amber link lights on the cards external connector where the cable plugs in and leads to the Unit.  Using the cards MegaRaid Storage software, the external Units 1E Raid array does not show up as physical or logical drive but the tape drive that is connected to one of it's internal SATA ports does show up and functions as it did before. 

Is there a possible boot utility setting that might have changed that is causing the scsi card for the external array to now not recognize the external array and therefore it is not activating it?  Is it possible to span a RAID array between two arrays with different raid types 1E and 5?? ( i inherited this setup...although i recall in windows disk mngmt that there did show Disk 0 and Disk 1 before.  Or maybe it is a power supply issue that coincidentally happened at the same time as the internal array drive failure.  

I can't find documentation on the External device...UUgggg...
