So, I'm completely new to everything server related but was given a poweredge t110 from work which I thought I could use as a Plex server at home.
However, I can't do anything with it! I've been monkeying about with every setting I can find to get it to recognise my hdd but it's not happening! I thought I could just plug in my hdd, install windows server 2016 and away we go - adding new hdds as and when I needed to (as with a PC) but I see now just how naive that is. I'm fairly experienced with building PCs etc and imagined they'd be more or less the same - at least the bios...but nooooo!!
I don't know much about RAID (although have researched online a lot before reaching out for help) but thought that a NAS server would work better for what I have in mind.
I've seen posts suggesting doing an IT flash which I'd do if I could find the software - I don't know if it would work but after 2 days fiddling about I'm willing to try anything!
If someone has any suggestions I'd love to hear from you but please, in easy to understand steps - think of me as a 5 year old and you (or I) won't go far wrong!
If you install server core then there will be only CLI available. You need to select the option "Desktop Experience" during installation to get full GUI
For ages I had them wired to the storage controller and then tried the motherboard. I was able to install windows. Now that it's installed, I'm on a page c:\users\Administrator but have no idea what to type!
