Poweredge t310 Raid 10 issue
HI,
My customer has a Poweredge T310 (not exactly sure of the model but I believe it is a T310) with a Perc S100 Raid Controller. There are4 500 gb drives in the system and I'm seeing this:
RAID10, 999GB, Degraded (R/W) , Strip Size. (see Below)
Update: Here's what I see in the Perc S100 screen

End of Perc S100 Screen
DO I:
1.) Rescan Disks first to see if Disk 1 comes back online? Will I lose any data if I rescan Disks?
Is the Physical Disk 1 the drive in question?
I want to make sure that I don't lose the data on this unit.
If drive 1 is the problem, after I install a new one, how do I get the system to rebuild the RAID10?
Any help would be appreciated

1. A Rescan will not harm any data, but it is also not an available operation on an H310.
If the drives are "hot-swap" (accessible from the outside/front of the system), then you should hot-swap the drive. NEVER power down to replace a hot-swappable drive.
After replacing the drive, it should automatically begin to rebuild. If not, then you will need to assign the replacement as a hot-spare to start the rebuild.

Thanks for your reply. I have a few questions?:
Is the H310 the same as the S100? I do see the option for rescan but havn't tried it till tomorrow night.
The drives are not hot swappable. Does it look like Drive 1 is the problem to you ?
Finally , I don't see the option for a hot spare in the S100 Bios.

Thanks for clearing that up for me.
I was able to install the OSMA and found that when I went to disk 1 it gave me tone option and that was to Assign Global Hot Spare.
So if I put a new drive in and choose this option will it start rebuilding the RAID 10?

No, the H310 and the S100 are not the same.
The H310 is a card, 'H' stands for :emotion-11:ardware RAID.
The S100 is the onboard, Intel chipset RAID, rebranded as a Dell device (PERC). 'S' stands for :emotion-56:oftware RAID.
The Rescan, as far as I know, has not been used since the PERC 4 controllers, and OMSA documentation indicates it is not supported for either controller ... I suspect that IF you are allowed to execute it, it will do nothing.
Yes, from what you posted, disk 1 has failed and needs to be replaced (or thoroughly tested before being rebuilt).
