64BIT OS!!!

Does the poweredge2650 and 6650 support 64bit operating systems? I just bought a PE6650 with 16 gig memory and i want to utilise all of it.

Thanks

    LucTec,

Sorry, I don't think they do. You can find a list of systems and supported OS's here.

    EM64T processors weren't introduced till the 8th generation servers (1850, 2850, 2800, etc).

So x64 OSes will not run on any of the 6th gen servers (including the 2650 and 6650).

At best you can use a 32-bit OS and use PAE.

Thanks guys for the prompt response. Anyway what benefit will i get from a 16gig memory system if the OS is 32bit? I believe 32bit maxes out at 4gig, right?

    Thanks again

If you have a PAE capable/supporting application, and the OS has this capability turned on, you can use memory over 4GB the way I understand it. I would think databases and mail servers could have been written to support PAE, but you'd have to look at your specific application to see if it can do it.
