Need help configuring a Dell server for SQL 2000
Hi,
I tried searching for a thread on this subject in this forum, but no luck. Therefore, I'm asking for some help configuring a Dell rack server to run MS SQL 2000. I know jack about SQL 2000 system requirements, except that it needs a lot of processing power and memory. We are going to have 2 web front-end applications on one server querying that SQL 2000 server. We want a server that can handle queries from both applications, that has little to no downtime.
Again we need help configuring a Dell rack server to handle MS SQL 2000.
Any comments or recommendations are welcome.
Thanks

I recommed a server w/ RAID 5 for the databases and no RAID configuration for hosting the transaction logs.
At the minimum I would go w/ 512 MB of memory and 2 procs for the system. With SQL enterprise manager you can configure it to only use one proc if you want and if SQL is monopolizing memory you can also put restrictions on its memory usage. Depending on usage it is not really a beast that needs a lot of high-end hardware.
