PE2950 rebuild

Our Dell PowerEdge server had had a RAID card failure, we have purchased a new RAID raid and it is working OK, but we now need to re-install the Operating System.

The problem is that the IT staff before me have not kept any of the media that came with the Server.

The Microsoft Label on the Server says that it is Windows 2003 Storage Server R2 x64.

I have spoken to Dell Support and they say I can use any Dell Server 2003 media as long as I boot with the Open Manage Media - Is this the Dell Systems Build and Update Utility that can be downloaded from the Drivers Page.

Also are they correct about being able to use any Widnows 2003 media? Could we use normal Windows 2003 media (OEM or retail) ?

If you have a license for "Windows 2003 Storage Server R2 x64", then any media for that specific OS will be acceptable as during the install you can put in the license key from the sticker on the server.

It may not take the product key for automatic activation ... if it doesn't, then a quick call to Microsoft for a manual activation should work (just click on the Activate by Phone).

Unfortunately we do not have the Storage Server Media, we only have normal 2003 media.
