Here is what I currently have and what I am needing to achieve

Currently

I have 10 disks configured in a disk group running at RAID6 these are in a virtual disk which is presented to my virtual VMWare enviroment as a datastore.

Requirement

I need to expand my disk group by 2 disks so that my data store is expanded to cope with new vm's / new system.

I called Dell support and asked what is the best way to achieve this and they told me that the recommended way was to backup up all data on disks and then delete the group, recreate and then restore the data (this to me sounds long winded and intensive and presents risk)

Reading if my understand is correct in the manual it say you should be able to put the 2 new disks in the array and then assign these to the disk group. As the disks are included in the group it raises the io on the disks and that parity isn't adhered as both data and parity needs to be wrote across all disks.

 

Has anyone had experience of doing this and some guide, instructions points to be wary of ?
