What is the exact error message you get? Is it a error, or just an information message?
If you move the media to scratch and already quick erased the media, than you will be able to write over that media with backups.

Whenever I erase a tape it puts it in scratch also. In my experience it cannot be overwritten until it is moved back to your deafault media set.
