PowerEdge 2800 drive mounting rails part#
Hi,
We recently bought a PowerEdge 2800 and we now want to install a 5.25" internal tape drive but unfortunatly the 2800 didn't ship with the proper drive rails to secure the drive in the optional drive bay (unlike my desktop machine - a dimension 4550 - which had them attached somewhere inside the case). Does anybody know what proper part number is by which I can order them in The Netherlands?
Thanks,
Patrick

- Patrick: I just ran into the same problem that you did. Here is the Dell part # for the rails, and screws :
rails: N2107
Screws: 48480
Do me a favor. Look inside the case, and see if there is a power connector for your tape drive. I couldn't find one in ours, and they tol me I needed part number
G2536 to hook the power from the tape drive onto the backplane for the Raid.
Ron - Good luck ordering the parts. It look like at least the power adaptor is back ordered until February. This is really irritating to me. With the PowerEdge 2600 servers, you didn't need any of this to install an additional drive. Just Dells way of soaking us for more money I suppose.
Ron - Ron,
After some tinkering with spare parts from machines obsolete for at least a decade I also ran into *that* problem: there's only a non-standard connector on the RAID backplane. There are no power leads with the usual PC power connectors at all. I suspect the G2536 is cable that has both a standard connector on one end and a non-standard one on the other end.
However, I had already decided the place the drive in an IBM xSeries 225 which has a regular drive bay and regular power leads. Unfortunatly, TapeWare 7 seems to hang when verifying backup jobs.... And of course the IBM is already in production and there's almost no time to take it offline for experiments. :-<
So maybe I'll try to order the parts you mentioned and move it back to the Dell after all.
Thanks,
Patrick Has anyone actually managed to get these parts yet?? I have been sent 2 lots of "Drive rails and power leads" by Dell and none of them are correct for the 2800. I have also spoken to origin storage and service source who both say that there is no such item!!!!
Think I may have to move to HP servers..........................
- Well, I just finally recevied my power leads, and screws, however the rails seems to be no where to be found in my box, go figure.
g2536 is an internal Dell part number only. You can't find it on-line anywhere. To order that part, you must call Dell spare parts division.
I don't know if I have the correct power adaptors yet, since I won't be putting them in the server until this evening. mikeeberhart

I am so absolutely upset with Dell.
Since mid-december, I too have been trying to get the rails and power-adapter-cable for my 2800PE (for a Dell DLT1), and I have placed the order for the parts THREE times now, and each time, the orders begin by sending me an email stating that expected ship date is roughly 7 days. Then nothing... no updates... my orders just end up CANCELLED all the time!!! *I* have not been cancelling them, and when I call in to RE-ORDER, they say they "don't know what happened" or such, and assure me that "this time you'll get the parts".
Dell, what the heck is going on!!!???
I NEED these parts. I just bought this kickin' server from you and dropped a nice buck on it to say the least. I have a Dell PE4400 I'm moving my DLT from (which I mentioned when I first bought the 2800, where I was ASSURED I could get the parts I needed - though, I had to order from the "parts department" and couldn't include with original order).
If I would have known, I would have NEVER bought the 2800!!! It's a bit lame not being able to run backups for TWO MONTHS NOW!!
HELP!

The part number that you will need to order will be U1576. You have to order from the spare parts dept however. It will show that the part is unavailable, but ask the rep to email the planner of the item to have it released and inform them that it must be ordered out of location 01. Hope this will help some of you out. The part U1576 is the entire kit assy, it includes the 2 rails, 2 drop power cable, 4 screws and 2 other scsi cables.mikeeberhart

Thanks for that information.I will TRY that (again)... I say again, because I initially started with the parts department. That is the department that decided to magically cancel the first TWO orders. I hope you are right.I plan to place the order tomorrow. One thing I noticed, and don't look forward to again, is there is definately a communication-barrier issue with that group (it appears to have been outsourced overseas). I find myself repeating everything 5 times. But, the orders get entered and show up in MyDell orders thing... then, then get cancelled.I'll post an update if I EVER get the parts. In the mean time, does anyone know a third-party that would stock these? At this point I'd much rather just go somewhere that had a clue on how to get the parts to me fast.
