I'm having the same issue of a lot of people using Dell, my laptop is unable to use the microphone plugged on 3.5mm port, only headphones are recognized. Searching at the forum I found the usual solution is to use MaxxAudio Pro, the problem is, this software is not installed on this machine and the "installer" provided by Dell is kinda link to the Windows Store, and the company where I work has blocked the access to windows store (it has a custom page of it instead).
So, there is a way to install MaxxAudio Pro without Windows Store? There's a way to download directly the installer from Dell repositories?
(Obs: Even it is a corporate laptop I can elevate the session to adm)
Laptops cannot use other manufacturers drivers. You must use Dell customized version of all drivers--even those from other manufacturers-- since all the hardware is part of the Dell board.
See if your model (which you should have mentioned) is compatible and listed on this download page-

There might be another reason the mic is not working. Tell us what model laptop you have and someone might be able to help.
