Just saw the 1600N. I am wondering if it is possible to have both legal and letter paper available to the printer simultaniously. Two seperate trays. This is what I don't like about my 1700N. (Wish I had seen the 1600N before I got the 1700N many months ago. Don't recall it being available then though).
I bought the 1600n primarily for the legal and letter size printing. I also bought the second tray for the legal paper. My wife receives files made up of letter and legal in no particular order, so the "auto select" is supposed to sense which paper to select.
Well, I have two of these printers now, and neither work for that task. Dell sent me a replacement because I was told the printer was not sensing the document size. Got the replacement printer in two days, but still no go. Updated drivers, checked and re-checked settings, no go. The tech I am now working with is to call me again tomorrow (5-28) to see how (if) the new drivers solved the issue.
My suggestion at this point, DON'T purchase until or if they work this out. If Dell sends me a third and if it doesn't work I will want my money back. Other than this issue it's great, but we need it to recognize and print letter and legal with "Auto Select". Hope this helps.
Well, they did send a third printer. I must answer your question yes and no. With Word docs it does fine. You will also need to go into the paper set-up on the printer itself and make sure that the paper size for each tray is selected properly. It defaults to letter. We use letter in tray 1 and legal in tray 2. The manual is very poorly written when it comes to all the settings on the printer itself.
We're still waiting to try it with a mixed .PDF doc.
