Auto Select Paper Tray?

Well it would seem I have the exact same problem that a number of others do.

It is this: I'd like to be able to have the manual tray actually recognize the fact that there is media in it, and then *gasp* print using that media!

My 5200 replaced a four year old HP that would do this without a second thought, making printing a letter, then a card, an envelope (diff than the size in the env feeder!) and then something else a total breeze.  Now I have to switch the tray settings around every time, this has slowed down my donor processing alot and made it nearly impossible to share the printer.

Why, oh why, would anyone design a printer/software package that doesn't handle this most basic of office problems?  I've never had this kind of hangup with printers in all my experience with them!

Aside from this frustration I find it to be a robust and effective printer, but its like having a sportscar without one wheel.

I spent about an hour with Dell Support today trying to solve this same problem. According to them, there is no solution.

I could not make my 3000cn to pull the correct size paper from its default tray.  It was a no-brainer with any HP I ever seen except HP 2200.  Very disappointed with Dell.
