Dell 1600N MF printer - Printer Jam 2 - can't find jam

I have a 1600N that is about 1 1/2 years old. It's worked fine up until this past weekend. It's got a Printer Jam 2 error. I can't get it to clear and I can't find any paper jams using the steps provided in the user guide. I've checked the front door, under the drum and the back door. I'll take this thing apart if I have to but I'd like to have a copy of a maintenance guide to do that if needed.

My wife filled me in on some info I was missing. Over the weekend, she had a paper jam and was able to remove the paper. It didn't tear so there should be nothing physically stuck inside the printer. Could this be a sensor problem? Is there something that can be reset via the maintenance menu?

The printer is 1 1/2 years old. Maybe a little more than that. It had a 1 year warranty.

If the problem occured right after the jam and no paper was left behind inside the printer, I would say it is a very good chance for it to be related to the printing unit itself, sensor or otherwise.

Are you still in Warranty? Support is probably your best bet from this point and could help you clear the internal memory at the very least.

Over a year ago, one of our 1600N reported paper jam.
Paper was removed but the screen was stucked with Paper JAM error message.

Finally I have to put in a new toner cartidge to get it going.
It seems that a new cartridge will reset that error.
The old one has 49% toner but could be reuse after above jamming error was reset.

I think that was a glitch...

Interesting. I guess that's worth a shot. Does anyone know a good source for toner for the 1600N? Mine is still on the original cartridge with about 60% left.

Do a search on ebay/google for Dell 1600 toner.
You could get a refill with electronic chip for $15.
    It works great.

Each situation may be different, my fixed may not apply to others.

If the jam error did not goes away with a new toner refill, I will focus on actual paper jam remains inside the paper path. (pick up and fuser output are two hidden paths)

I seen many times that when users try removing jammed paper they end up left out a small broker piece inside and most likely hidden and stuck with the sensors. There are sensors on pick up and fuser/exit unit.

If my printer is out of warrant and I am capable to dissassemble the back cover and remove the  fuser and put it back, I will do so to make sure there is no paper get stuck.

    Good luck.

I talked to Dell on the phone yesterday. I thought they would charge me for phone support but they didn't. It's either the sensor in the toner cartridge or the sensor in the fuser. So I'm going to try a new toner cartridge first and then a new fuser if needed.

I picked up a fuser on eBay for $50 about 2 weeks ago. Turns out that there was a sheet of labels tightly wrapped around the roller. I didn't notice them until I removed the old fuser. It's working great now. Not sure I can even remove the labels from the old fuser. I'll play around with that some other time.

I know this is an old question, however, it just happened to me and I found a solution. Open your front printer door and close it\, your printer will begin to reset. Have several pieces of paper ready and start feeding the manual feeder as soon as you shut the front printer door. You may need to feed more than 1 page and, should you not be quick enough to grab paper when the printer is ready for the next page, you may need to re-open/close the front printer door to start the process again. After a few pages have been fed see if the printer says "ready". If not, maybe try these steps a few more times. If it still doesn't solve your problem... good luck.
