Dell 1710n Not Feeding

We are having a problem with our Dell 1710n. It will not feed the paper completely through. It gets maybe 1/3 through the page when it feeds out the back (and it does feed), then just stops and gives us a paper jam error. It starts pulling the second sheet up, so I have to take that out then remove the jam either by taking out the laser cartridge or opening the back and pulling it from there.

What could be the issue here? There is nothing blocking it as far as I can see, and I can't understand why it would pull it halfway and stop.

We had a feed problem with our 1710 and discovered that the paper tray size was not on the correct setting and the paper was not lying flat in the tray. If you haven't already checked the tray setting and the paper, it might be worth a try.

    Hi TMCole/MuseumCOO,

Try the below mentioned steps to fix the paper jam problem:

    1. Turn off the printer. Unplug the power cord, adapter from the printer, press and hold the power button on the printer for 20 seconds. This will remove the static power from the printer.
    2. Clean any dust particles surrounding the paper sensor/ paper path.
    3. Load a smaller amount of paper when printing multiple pages (use only new, unwrinkled paper).
    4. Adjust the paper guides to hold the paper firmly. Make sure the guides are not holding the paper tightly.
    5. Select the appropriate print media for the printer from the settings which helps in avoiding printing problems.
    6. Now try to print the document and check.

To prevent jams, ensure the following:

    • Place the printer on a flat, level surface.
    • Use paper recommended for inkjet printers.
    • Do not force the paper into the printer.
    • Do not load too much paper.
    • Check and adjust the paper guides as necessary to make sure they rest against the edges of the paper.
    • Select the correct paper type and size.

If the problem persists, then the printer needs to be replaced.

    Please reply for further help.
