Problems with 966 Firmware Update

I've been struggling (like many others) with my Dell 966 All in One Printer.  The issue is that the printer will print (usually) on a fresh reboot but then communication errors start popping up.  Based on the many threads within this forum my issue is not uncommon.

I see that Dell has posted a firmware update to fix this problem.  However, when I follow the directions to install the firmware update, it does not appear to work. After I enter the IP address for my printer the following messages are displayed:

The machine never resets, not does the firmware update (verfied with the Network Setup Page)

I've about had it with this printer.  Unless I get this resolved within the next week, the Dell Printer will go on the trash pile and I will never purchase another Dell Print again.

Looking for help....

    jeffae,

Try installing the firmware update using a USB connection.

Hi, I have a xp computer connected by USB to the 966... executing the exe firmware file always asks for a ip to connect to. I put the ip address and like the older post, the printer never resets... why?
