The message I received was "MDAC 2.8 RTM is incompatible with this version of Windows.  All of its features are currently part of Windows."

Did everything letter by letter.  Modified the registry subkeys and also installed Mdac.inf.  I actually copied all files under the folder I386 from installation disc directly to my hard drive I386 folder.  Next, I went to install Access 2002 yet again to see if it would take.  It didn't.  I still received the Error 1919 message again.  I also received the box where it asks me if I want to send this information to Microsoft via online.  The details were as follows:

"Error Signature

ProdCode: { my code number} ProdVer : 10.0.2627.01
Action : InstallODBC  ErrNum : 1919  ErrO : 6
Err1 : Component not found in the registry  Err2 : MS Access Database"

My system is running efficiently, has been defraged and optimized and continually is.  I have no viruses, no adware to be messing around behind the scenes...zip. 

I've reinstalled Corel WordPerfect in hopes that Access would install--no dice.

Upon further research, I ran a search on my hard drive for the ODBC driver which I should have being as MDAC 2.8 RTM said that all of its features were currently part of my Windows environment.  (This message can be found on this page, second image down.  Just use the arrows on the right of the screen to auto-scroll to see it http://www.kypsah.com/error.htm.)

Under the ODBC Data Administrator, the following is listed:

• dBASE Files
• Excel Files
• FoxPro Files
• MS Access 97 Database
• MS Access Database
• Text Files

I highlighted the MS Access Database name and hit "Configure".  The following message came up:

"The setup routines for the Microsoft Access Driver (*mdb) ODBC driver could not be found.  Please reinstall the driver."

Okay, now I'm wondering why MDAC 2.8 says that everything is there when this particular window says that it isn't (if I'm having to download this particular driver). 

I'm currently searching the Net to find the driver to download in hopes that this will solve the problem.

There is also a MDAC 2.8 SP1

which is, apparently what XP SP2 contains; so if you have XP SP2, that may be why the MDAC 2.8 RTM would not install, but you could try installing the SP1.

I downloaded the checker this morning and it found the MDAC 2.8.  Everything according to the checker checked out.

I just downloaded and tried to install the MDAC 2.8 for SP1 and received the following message:

"This setup does not support installing on this operating system."

Just an FYI... Under System Information:

• My OS is XP Home Edition.

• Version:  5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600

• Office 2003 Applications
  This is interesting being as I don't have Office 2003 but Office '97.  Access 2002 is an independent disc which I bought separately to create the databases.

That may explain the problem. When you install Access, install it in another folder. Don't use the default, as it conflicts with Office 97.
