While in Book2, if I go to Edit, then Links it does show Book 1, and the only option it gives me is to Open Source, if I click that it say book 1 can not be found. I was having problems a while back and had to use the Save As on book 2, I saved it as book 1, after I got every thing working right I deleted book 1, that's the only time I had a book 1, and that was a few months back, and this problem started sometime last week.

Do you have any links in Book2 referring to Book1? Maybe at some time you copied some data and used paste/link?

If you don't have book1 any more, you could break the links to it in book 2 (help, search for remove link gives this, but you might want to look for yourself:

Important When you break a link to a source, all formulas that that use the source are converted to their current value. For example, the link =SUM([Budget.xls]Annual!C10:C25) would be converted to =45. Because this action cannot be undone, you may want to save a version of the file before you start.

On the Edit menu, click Links.
In the Source list, click the link you want to break.
To select multiple linked objects, hold down CTRL and click each linked object.

To select all links, press CTRL+A.

Click Break Link.
If the link used a defined name, the name is not automatically removed. You may want to delete the name as well.
How?

On the Insert menu, point to Name, and then click Define.
In the Names in workbook list, click the name you want to change.
Do one of the following:
Change the name
Type the new name for the reference, and then click Add.
Click the original name, and then click Delete.
Change the cell, formula, or constant represented by a name
Change it in the Refers to box.

Delete the name
Click Delete.

If you use an external data range, a parameter of a query may also use data from another workbook. You may want to check for and remove any of these type of links.

If you still have book1 but moved it, you should be able to point to its path.

Third option:  in help, read section 'control when links are updated'. you can set it to manual, which shouldd stop it trying when you open book2.

In the Edit, Links, Source there is no Break Link to click on, I'm not quite sure but I think that applies to Excel 2003, and I'm using 2000, also the manual is grayed out, so I don't have the option to choose that either, After searching the Microsoft site I found this, it didn't help me, but I thought I'd put the link in, in case someone else might be able to use it, it's an add--in for Excel ; XL: Delete Links Wizard  http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;188449.

I decide to make a copy of Book2 and rename it Book1, after doing that I was able to Change the Source, in the Edit, Links box, I directed it to the new book1, and the File Not Found Box no longer appears. Book 2 still shows the link, so if you should happen to run across a Link killer, or have any ideas on how to get rid of the link, please post back, I'll keep checking in.

What I cited was from the Excel 2002 help file. I seem to remember that it was pretty similar in the Excel 2000. Have you looked in your Excel help file? Click help, type in links, or break links, click search and it should give you detailed instructions. I think its in Edit menu, links.., which should not be greyed out if there are links in the workbook.
