Factory Settings Restore
I have an Inspiron 580s Desktop, and I am donating it. I was told by restoring to factory settings will clear all data and software from it and leave it just as I received the day I purchased it, and this is my intention. I went to system restore but the oldest restore point is Dec. 3, 2013. I purchased it Aug.10, 2010.

You are using system restore but you ought to be using Dell Backup and Recovery or the earlier version Dell DataSafe.
For more information see the following:
Note using the following methods does not securely wipe the data. To securely wipe the system you would need to use a utility like DBAN. In such a case I would create two or more recovery USBS. Remove them from the system. I would then securely wipe it with DBAN. Then I would use the recovery USB to restore to factory settings. After factory settings are installed I would again download the latest version of Dell Backup and Recovery and the Windows Updates.
