Frustrating!

I am using Microsoft Office 2003 Teacher/Student Edition and for the life of me I CANNOT copy and paste into word.  I have tried EVERYTHING I know I could do and NOTHING happens.....What am I doing wrong?

Secondly, I am new at this so bear with me.....
When I want to send something to my floppy disc...I want to save it as a bimap (bmp) and I do that accordingly, however, when I retrive it - it is saved as a gif.   What is going wrong?

I hope someone out that can help me as I am getting so frustrated with this....
Thanks
Betty

    IsaDun,

It would be helpful to know what "everything" that you have tried consists of. If you are trying to copy and paste text you must first highlight the block of text that you wish to copy by dragging your mouse cursor over it until it is highlighted. At that point, you can right-click and select "Copy" from the context menu or press Crtl-C and your selection will be copied to the Windows Clipboard. Then open your Word document, place the cursor in the document at the location you wish to paste your copied selection, right-click and select "Paste" from the context menu or press Ctrl-V to paste the contents of the Clipboard.

As far as saving graphics file types, if a file is in *.gif format you cannot change its format by simply specifying that you wish to save it as a bitmap. You must open the file in a graphics program (Paint Shop Pro, Microsoft Paint) then go to File|Save As and specify the alternative file format you wish to use to save the image.

I'm not sure if this is true with all versions of Word, but for Word 2000, Word must be opened before you copy the selection from another source that you wish to paste into a Word document. For example, if you wish to paste a paragraph viewed on your web browser into a Word document, your Word program must be open and running in the background before you do the copy operation. Then when you have the copied matrial in your clipboard, you can bring up the desired location in your Word document and do your paste operation.
