Just received delivery of a new XPS 8500 with Microsoft Office 10 "pre-installed" as well as Windows 7. Office will not launch. IT asks for a product key, but no documentation was delivered with the machine and the Software download page requires you to register, but when I try to register the computer says it is "Exmaining my compauter" and nothing happens. THios has been going on for two hours.
This is horrible service, support, and a horrible product delivery.
Please uninstall Microsoft Office 2010 then restart your computer.
Next download and install the correct file from here depending on the version of Office 2010 you purchased. You should have a product key on a MPI card see here for details.
Next attempt to follow the instructions here to register with My Dell Downloads.
All computers come with MS Office Starter version for free but you cannot use the Office shortcut to access it. The shortcut for the full version of Office 2010 is available but it will not work unless you specifically ordered Office 2010 and paid extra for it when you configured your computer. If you paid for Office you will have an activation key on a card that came with the computer. To open the free version Office Starter, search for MS Word Starter. Starter has only Word and Excel in ad supported limited versions.
The previous post by natakuc4 has a video that shows how to locate the Microsoft Product Identifier card (MPI). However if you have missed it, here is the direct link:
If your package is missing the MPI card, please click on my name and add me as a friend, send a direct message with the service tag, name and phone number. I will call you back and get this taken care of.
