Microsoft Publisher 2002

Why can't I open documents previously produced in Windows 98 - Publisher Pro 2000 with Windows XP - Publisher XP 2002 ?

The documents still open fine on a friends computer still using the original program configuration.

According to the help file, Publisher XP/2002 should be able to open files created in Publisher 98 and later (the OS is not relevant).

Have you tried, in File/open, set 'files of  type' to Publisher files (.pub). I don't know whether that would make a difference, but worth a shot.

I take it that the files were saved in Publisher 2000 as 2000 files, not as earlier version  or other type.

    Thanks for that.

Yes i've checked that, plus if I check properties of the old file it comes up as a publisher file.

I know it should be backward compatable, but for some reson Publisher XP will not open the files.

What is even more annoying is that I can preview them in the 'open' 'views' box.
