is this a over all performance  issue or is just with outlook?Also are you a packrat LOL if so try getting rid of some the old messages clearing out deleted and large files no longer in use.And if there certain files or e-mails etc. that your just not ready to part with back up your pst to writable device to free up space or try running SCANPST.EXE you might have a files within outlook that need to be corrected.Well there's a little homework for you good luck:smileytongue:

The techs on the system I have at work told me that Outlook can get really slow when the 'Personal Folders' file gets near 1GB.  One solution is to create another Personal Folder, let's say Personal Folder2, and then move some of the message folders into this folder.  You can accomplish this by simply dragging the folders from one place to another.  Hope it helps.

It is just a performance issue with Outlook.  I deleted almost all of my messages in my inbox except for four or five (Also I have a folder for a few emails to keep but it is mostly small emails).  I also ran scanpst.exe like you suggested and it fixed 20 or so problems.  However, it is still slow when switching between the few messages I have left.  Also, I do have the preview pane on, but it is slow when opening the messages without the preview pane.  And by slow I mean a minute or two.  Also thanks for your help.

glad to see that some of the issue where corrected.preview pane off hmmmmmmmm....not the best choice even though the app. moves and open files slowly it's the safest way to view your e-mails with it on looks like there might be a bigger iusse at hand if scanpst.exe didn't correct the issue you might want to remove the app and then reinstall it.before doing so be sure to save your pst. then scan then scan the system for viruses.......:smileyindifferent:

Thank you for your help I did reinstall it a while ago and that didn't seem to help much, but I didn't remove the .pst file and then reinstall.  I will try that approach.  I keep thinking it is because I have my emails forwarded from a college mail server or that it is pop3, but it has always been that way and it has only been extremely slow recently (past year or so).  I am no longer directly connected to the college network, but that shouldn't matter since pop3 downloads the emails to my machine I should be able to switch between them quickly once they are opened however that is not the case.
