What to do when reinstalling Office XP
I have been experiencing a problem with the SP3 update which many of my fellow dell members seem to have as well. I don’t have the CDs which came with the computer. It is sad to say that it makes my blood boil. My problem is within excel Sberet.msi. I must have excel work on my computer. I have to fix this problem ASAP. I have been told that I have to buy new software. I will just have to bite the bullet on this one. My question is what do I do with the new software? Do I have to uninstall everything on my computer and then install the new program to get it to work or can I use it as a patch for the file missing? Would I have to reinstall other programs like quicken once I have uninstalled my current operating system? Links are helpful. Thank for you responses.

You can buy any version of Office you want. It doesn't have to be Office XP, especially since MS has released Office 2007. If you're a student or have a connection to one, you can frequently get the student discount through a university bookstore.
And make sure you hang on to the CD this time. ;)

If you don't have the original CD, I don't think there's any way to solve the problem without purchasing a new retail copy of Microsoft Office. You'll have to back up all your Office files (.doc, .xls, etc) onto CD, then go to Add/Remove control panel and uninstall Office XP. Then reboot and install the new version of Office from the CD you purchased.
You don't have reinstall XP or any other software to fix the problem as long as you have an Office disk. But backing up your personal files to CD is always a good idea before you do anything major.
