We purchased that "wonderful" product together with our EmailXtender and rolled it out on a few laptop users. However, what I found out a hard way - it's not stable at all. Outlook crashes 5-10 times a day on random occasion caused by IMScache.dll. EMC support can't come up with any straight answer why is this happening and how to prevent it.
Thanks for the suggestion, it somewhat helps with Outlook crashes but Application log is still filled with lots of error messages such as:
The description for Event ID ( 5893 ) in Source ( EmailXtender ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: (0x86041705) Unspecified error (0x80004005) Module : ExOutlookClient.dll Sub-module: CoExOutlookClient::GetExMessage Source : CoExOutlookClient.cpp(381) Code : 0x86041705
Is User Cache installed on the EmailXtender server? If so is it possible to install it on another machine? Although the products should peacefully coexist I was told recently the configuration is unsupported (I read - not extensively tested). Hope this helps.
Indeed, it was installed on EX server, however, I moved it to another machine, the application log is still filled with lots of errors from EmailXtender, however, it does seem that Outlook crashes less likely. Still it crashes and I'm afraid it didn't pass our test phase which is unfortunate.
Hello Frank, currently an application log on one my desktops filled with the following messages:

I have the same Problems but mostly / only with Windows Vista. With XP Sp2 / Sp3 and Office 2003 / 2007 i don't have this Problems so often. Per week 2-3 Crashes not more. But with Vista this is a Nightmare. I also get very thin or no info from the support. We will stop now to sell UC for the next time and wait for a final running Version.
what version are you running? - There was a release in May I believe... UC was running unbelievable poorly in the beginning... but with each version, it got better (I must confess). Currently, I have about 2000 UC clients on 2 UC front-end servers. I have little problems (but all are WinXP and O2k3), except the service stability of the UC front-end servers. I have an open call about this.
Just my experience, Jochen.
PS: I am glad to see that other people are using UC and had similar experiences. PPS: I heard that EMC started using UC internally as well... since then, many problems got resolved!
i got a special patched version and i used also the EmailXtender User Cache 4.7 Patch 1334. With all two i had a lot of Outlook Crashes per day with Vista. My Info is that we can count end of Q3 with a Vista Version (hopefully stabel). With XP i only have permanently a ugly alert in the event log the funktionality is not affected from this error message.

Disable DEP on the user cache box.
I've seen DEP interfere with EX and DX.
