700m: CDRW/DVD driver needed?

I just received my Dell Inspiron 700m yesterday (awesome laptop). I uninstalled a bunch of the junk that came with it that I don't need and I think I may have accidently uninstalled something I shouldn't have.

Down in the bottom right system tray, there is the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon. When I click on it, it gives me the option to remove my combo drive. It says the following:

"Safely remove PHILIPS CDRW/DVD CDD5263 - Drive(D:)"

This isn't normal, is it? That shouldn't be an option that I have. How can I remove it from that list? It doesn't cause me any problems at the moment aside from being annoying, but I use my USB keychain frequently and I go to "Safely Remove Hardware" to remove it from the computer. Therefore I might remove the combo drive. Which would require me to restart for Windows to recognize it again.

I am having the same problem as well right after I formatted my hd and install a fresh copy of
WinXP pro.... Anyone knows how to remove the burner from the list?
Mine burner is Sony DVD+-RW DW-D56A

Also, is there any crack to make it region free?
    Thanks!

Normal for laptops? Because it doesn't list it on my Dell Dimensions 4400.

It's normal for it to be listed as it is removable media. If you have a PC card installed, it'll be listed as well, also thumb drives.

It's normal for the 700m because the optical drive is considered removable media.

Thanks, but how come it wasn't list when the 700m is installed with dell's home xp?

By the way, anyone knows good crack for Sony DVD+-RW DW-D56A (region free crack)?

    Thanks!

After several searches... I finally found one region free mod that works and it's so easy to use...
Just one click, now my sony drive is region free (RPC-1)...
In case anyone is interesting in knowing, it's called LtnRPC and sony  DW-D56A is a repackage of Liteon's SOSW-852S
