Cannot Write new Philips DVD+RW DVD8631 Drive
I cannot write my Philips DVD+RW DVD8631 Drive using ULead DVD MovieFactory 2 or ULead Visual Studio 7. When I try to burn my home movies to the DVD, I get the error message "Error in the disc image file". I get a different error when I try to create a movie using the Sonic RecordNow! 7 DVD burner delivered with my Dimension 8400. However, I can use Sonic RecordNow! 7 to write a data disc DVD.
Any suggestions on what I can do to create a DVD playable on a DVD player?

Hi Dbpaul,
Considering the drive does not work with the software that shipped with your system, Sonic Recordnow, apply the Dell firmware update for this drive. Hover your mouse over the Product Support Tab above, click on Downloads, enter information for your system and follow the links, should be under Removable Media Storage Devices.

It worked using the Sonic RecordNow! software that came with my Dimension 8400 after the firmware upgrade! Now, I just need to figure out why the ULead burner doesn't work.309

Have you checked Ulead`s site for any possible updates / patches that might be relevant.
On a side note:

and find some helpful tips.

Thanks for providing info here. This is my first PC with a DVD Burner and I was so excited to be able to finally burn my miniDV home movies to DVD. I ruined one blank DVD+R and turned here for help.
So thanks again.
I just find it odd that Dell does not ship out the computers with the updated firmware already. If this were my mom, she wouldn't know what to do. I just happy to be a geek and come on here to get the latest info and assistance.

Ok, well, it burned but when I load the DVD in the computer or my home DVD player, the beginnings of the video are not beginning, but the sound track is going. The video starts going about 3 minutes into the videos. I suppose this is more of a Record Now! issue. But anyone have any feedback?309

Once I got the latest patches for the ULead software, I was able to write a DVD that worked in my DVD player. It appears the the rule of thumb is to get the latest upgrades from the various vendors if you are having any problems.309
