DATA-SAFE DOCUMENTATION NEEDED!!!

I recently got an E-510 with 2 160G hard drives, configured with the Dell Data Safe option and Norton Ghost 10.

I found the Norton Ghost documentation on the Ghost disk, but where is the documentation for Data Safe, the system configuration, and how RAID-1 and Ghost are supposed to work together (or in parallel)?

I need to know what to expect if there's a drive failure, and what configuration parameters to set and which ones not to mess with. I expected to find documentation SOMEWHERE on the hard drive or among the disks supplied by Dell, but so far no luck!

I've found some useful messages on this forum (thanks!), some others via Google, and I've pursued some of the links that I found, but I'm still a bit confused about what I should be looking for and at on the computer.

Can anyone point me to a source, or give me a brief overview, something like "Data Safe for Dummies"?

TIA!

    Hi Furpaw,

I could not gather much information on Dell Data safe. Browse to the following link and click on more details under Data safe section.

Will update you as soon as I am able to get more information.

    Happy computer usage.

    Cheers,
    Maddy.

Nothing! That's what I got. I am really dissapointed with my purchase of a second 250 gig DataSafe drive. I had a Raid failure the other day and the mirrored drive did not kick in. Like you, I cannot find much documentation to explain how to configure it or what to do in case of a failure. In my case, I called Dell because I couldn't boot up. He was able to run quick tests on the drives and they passed. But he still couldn't get the computer to boot up. After many tries, he said my only option was to REBUILD Raid which would wipe out the data on both hard drives and put the system back like it was when I first bought it 3 months ago. Huh? I thought the 2nd mirrored drive was supposed to take over and it appear like nothing happened!

So I asked how I could at least back up my data on the hard drives. He told me I would have to take it to a computer tech to have it done. Needless to say, after paying a tech company, they were able to back up the data AND get the computer running. From what I understand, they went to the Dell site and installed Raid drivers to get into the Raid control panel. They turned off the Raid and then the computer could boot. I wasn't able to talk to the actual tech that worked on my computer to get all the details so I'll have to call today. But I was told by the front desk that the tech said NOT to use Raid and that it is unreliable. Well I already found that out.

So now I'm not sure what to do with my DataSafe drive and Raid. I hope someone can give us some more data on this topic.

I have Dell Data Safe on my PC. I had a BSOD with a stop:0x00000024 error, with file ntfs.sys appearing to be the problem. Could not boot the system. Took the EPS 400/9150 to Geek Squad as machine was 2 months out of warranty. They said couldnt access any of the data. Do you think this is a similar problem?
