Drive D tray won't close

I played a CD this morning, ejected it, then tried to play another, but the tray is stuck open.  What do I do now?

    Okay, I rebooted because I had a few problems with another program, and I got it working.  When I tried to close down, I got the message that DVD Launcher and Dummy Mixer CallBack Window were not responding. I've only had this computer a couple of weeks.  Sure hope I don't end up having problems with Windows XP like I did with Windows 98.  It is not starting out well.

    Hi Quilts,

    Not sure if this will work, sort of used to open the tray, but it may help;
    Click on the CD/RW link in my post and scroll to Section 6-5, article 14.
    If this does not help, if under warranty contact Dell by phoone and discuss with the Tech.

    Best Regards

    I have the same problem with a brand new Dell Inspiron (received October 4, 2004).

    Quite often, various programs that use disk drives (i.e, Exlporer and Backup Exec) hang and freeze.  When I kill the probrams, I get the message that the "Dummy Mixer Callback Window" is not responding.  I think there is a problem with the Sonic drivers.  If I figure it out, I will let you know.

    Well, what I have determined is that it freezes every time if I try to use the "eject" from the program.  In that case I have to reboot the computer before I can actually eject the disk manually.  But if I do it manually from the eject button on the computer itself, I have no problems.

    Yikes!  I haven't even installed Service Pack 2 yet.  I had planned to do it within a few hours.  (I've had a few questions I wanted answered on the message boards first.)  I hope that installing that doesn't cause additional problems!  I'm wondering now if I shouldn't postpone installing it.  Maybe that will give more time for someone (Dell, MS, other software companies) to come up with solutions to some of the problems.  I've never been one who wanted to beta test software.  And when it comes to some of these "fixes" like service packs, I'd rather other people do the "testing" on it, too.

    My problem is slightly different, but maybe related.  I have a brand new Inspiron 700m that I received on October 6.  After I installed Service Pack 2 for Windows XP, my computer freezes when I write large data files to the DVD burner.  The Windows backup utility freezes every single time, and Windows Explorer freezes when copying large files.  Windows Explorer also freezes sometimes when I am trying to get "properties" on a DVD.

    The specific problem has been diagnosed (by Microsoft) as an incompatibility between Service Pack 2 and the software driver for the NEC DVD burner.  I think Sonic wrote the driver.  My hunch is that the Drive Letter Access (DLA) driver from Sonic freezes when it handles very large files.

    I have spent several hours on the phone with Microsoft and Dell.  Today Dell told me that Service Pack 2 has affected many Dell computers and that I should uninstall Service Pack 2 until I hear from Dell.

    I hope this is helpful for you.
