DVD Is Not Recognizing Any CD's

Hi,

I have a Dimension 8250 with XP.  Just today, I noticed my dvd player is not playing any cd's.  When I put a cd in it, the green light stays on then goes out.  When I go to my computer, it tells me to put a cd in it.  It is not recognizing any cd's.

Any info would be helpful.

I had the same problem.  Dell replaced the DVD 3 times.  I finally gave up and purchased a retail Sony.  After several days the same thing occured on the retail drive.  I replaced the ide cable and all is well.  I would suggest replacing the ide cable.

Also make sure that Sonic DLA is not active.  Many forum members have reported DLA causes conflicts.  You can uninstall this program from add/remove programs, or right click on the DVD drive and insure that "enable DLA" is not checked.

    hope that helps,

Me and another forum member are having the same problem with a Samsung SD 616E. All of a sudden it just stoped reading any CDor DVD exacly the way you described it. We still have no idea what is causing it. Jef (Predator) has suggested several tips, but I still haven't found anything that works. I replaced the cable too but nothing... what is Sonic DLA?

    Hi Techy,

DLA is Sonic`s Packet Writing program ( for formating discs like Roxio`s Direct CD & Nero`s InCD ).
Did you get the chance to discuss this with Dell and what their suggestion/ advice might be?

    Best Regards

God, grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway,

    Hi Jeff

Like I mentioned before, my guarantee is been over for about three months now. I do have Nero burning rom in my computer, I updated it to the latest version to make sure it worked fine, it was one of the first things I tried. I will completely un-install it this evening to see if that makes any difference. ^_^

My apologies Techy, should have reviewed your previous thread once more before replying, too many irons in the fire at times.
Dell support still should trouble shoot the device but I understand..

    Best Regards,
    Jeff
