DVD+RW writes once, read-only
My problem is that my DVD+RW says that my files are read-only, when I can read and write to them on other computers. Dell sent me a new DVD+RW, but it does the same thing. I have updated the firmware on the new drive. I updated the original burning software, and I bought new burning software (Nero). I have tried all of Dell tech support's suggestions. Nothing works.
The drive burns data just fine, but then it claims it is all read-only. I am using TDK +RW disks.
Can anyone offer a suggestion?

- are the files set to read only?? right click on them --properties--- and check
just a suggestion
or you might have to finalise the dvd? that might be worth a try?

When I try to remove that property, a window tells me that "access is denied".
I tried creating a word document and saving it to the desktop (not read only). When I copy it to a DVD, it picks up "read only" status somehow.
I will check on "finalizing" the disk.
The disk I use for work and home was created by Roxio. The test disk that I have only used on the malfunctioning computer was created by Nero.
WHen the problem first arose, both work and home computers (Dell) were using Roxio. Since then, I have installed Nero at home. Installing Nero did not help.

- Klae:Let me go back to what I said earlier. You used a packet-writing program to write discs, probably with Roxio Drag to disc. These packet-writing formats are NOT compatible with those of other software packages, such as Sonic and Nero. If you want to continue to use packet-writing, the discs you create will only work on systems where that program is installed.This is why most forum regulars do not recommend packet-writing programs. What you are experiencing is only the beginning of the headaches these programs cause.
- While I don't fully understand what "packet writing" is, I can understand compatibility issues.But what about the disk that I created with Nero, wrote a Word file to with Nero, and Nero says is "read only", when the file wasn't read only until Nero wrote it?By the way, I appreciate very much your taking the time to work with me on this problem.Klae
